A "True North 34" is a heavy cruising, ocean going true blue water sailboat. She's a comfortable, easy sailer and a great liveaboard.
Most of the True North 34's were built and sold out of the Seattle/Vancouver area, some as home kits. Happy Trails is one of only two built at Chungli Industrial Park, Taoyuan City, Taiwan by Master Carpenter/Builder Patrick C. M. Liu. True Norths 34's have large interiors with plenty of headroom. There were 20 built all together.
True North 34's are heavily built sturdy boats and this one has saved my bacon more than once. It's a very safe boat in bad weather. She's a full keeled straight sailer.
"Happy Trails" currrently resides in a great slip at Marina Real, San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico, five hours south of Tucson, four lane all the way.
She's had new decks installed, new standing rigging, new water and fuel tanks, chain plates, lifelines, cutlass bearing, motor mounts, charger/inverter, composting toilet, Engel refigerator and an Origo alcohol stove. The boat is very structurally sound.
Her engine is a 35 HP Volvo MD17C, well known for it's simplicity and longevity. She always fires right up even after being away.
She's a cutter with good sails, good backup sails and a new spinaker.
